THE CHICKENBURGER SPOTS ITS SHADOW
Just Under 6 Weeks Until The Chickenburger Opens in Downtown Halifax
(Halifax, Nova Scotia) ––Shubenacadie Sam wasn't the only shadow-seeker this Groundhog Day. An enormous shadow of the iconic ‘chicken’ from the emblem of the famed Bedford eatery, The Chickenburger, appeared on an historic home located at 1468 Queen Street (see attached photo) in downtown Halifax. The shadow quickly disappeared but current owners of the property, Micco Companies, confirmed local folklore for the last few years–The Chickenburger will officially be opening at 1468 Queen Street in early-Spring 2012.
After the successful launch of The Chickenburger’s first corporate franchise at The Stanfield International Airport in December 2011, ‘The Chick’ is once more spreading its wings into the heart of downtown Halifax. The anticipated opening date is March 10, 2012, which also marks the 72nd Anniversary of the historic diner founded in Bedford, N.S.
In an effort to ensure the familiar ambiance and charm that personifies the landmark in Bedford, N.S. is maintained, the downtown location is being built within a historic home currently being renovated into the new restaurant.
The Chickenburger is a Canadian gem reputed to be the oldest drive-in diner in Canada. The Chickenburger started as a drive-up canteen in 1940 by Bernice and Jack Innes. Over the years, the landmark has become known for it's classic chickenburgers, fresh, never frozen hamburgers and old-fashioned milkshakes all served in a classic 50’s style diner or an old-fashioned walk-up window.
As the construction continues, and we near closer to the opening, we encourage everybody to follow us on our official Facebook page, The Chickenburger (www.facebook.com/thechickenburger), where we will be sharing the progress of the build.
